While not exactly a game but that is what I am trying to create, a Solar System Simulator. I have to submit this by Tuesday, 13th and by now I have only created the sun with a custom skinmesh. I have a clear idea of what I have to do but I don't know how to do it. Was hoping you guys can help me.
Here are my problems.
1. Importing Custom skinmesh
For eg I wanted a custom skinmesh for sun, I downloaded the jpg file from a website which was giving away free to use skinmeshes. After that in 3DRAD I "Import" it, 3DRAD gives an alert that It will use default skinmwsh and I should see the documentation on how to use custom ones. OK fine, After jumping around I came to a workable solution, I will go to the 3DRAD_res folder navigate to skinmesh/data and go to my custom skinmesh folder like "SUNskin" which I imported, then I will copy the files from NetBallBlue (or any other NetBall) folder and paste them in my custom one (replacing any pre-existing files) then I will copy the jpg image I downloaded to that folder and rename the pic to "ball" TA-DAH!!! It works, even if that is not the way it is supposed to. It worked fine with the sun but with the earth the 2 sides of the map is repeated, i.e. the earth's skin mesh only covers half the sphere, therefore the skinmesh is repeated twice. So I wanted to know the way to properly import custom skinmesh without using google sketchup (as in all youtube videos) also I have bump and specular mapping of the planets too how to use them?
2.Path following
I set the rigid body, the skinmesh and even tried with both at same time as PARENT in path, I also changed Loop COunts speed etc, but they dont follow the path, how can I make them follow it?
3.Shadows on sun?
Okay so..............our cute little sun got shadows.....
I resolved that by making the skin mesh "emissive" but still on the planets the shadows are all wrong, adding sunlight/pointlights doesn't resolve this.
4. Asteroid Belt.
I have not started this, but I will have to do it soon, so how can I make an asteroid belt? I mean I dont want to add 100 rigid bodies for that, because the in 3DRAD the left side menu is not collapsable and then even if I add them all to one group, they will all be a huge mess.
5. Google Sketchup
Okay so I tried importing some models through google sketchup but the quality wasnt the same at all :/, while the jupiter looks super cool in sketchup it just looks light brown lump in RAD after importing, any fixes please?
Sorry for poor English
Any other tips?
BTW: The tutorials are not good. not for a complete beginner it will scare them away, just being honest. I have used 3DRAD before like 2-3yrs back so I know the buttons atleast I am still a beginner though. I can't do modelling but I can code a bit in C/C++
Thank You
EDIT:
Okay so for an object to follow a path you IGNORE it not PARENT it sorry my fault, but still there are some other stuff I dont know, for example the path following is not smooth, the planet stops after it completes a lap and then resumes another lap, and If I increase Force for avoiding that then the rigid body extends the path, and if I increase speed then it follows a linear path :/
Here is all what I was able to accomplish yesterday: drive.google.com/open?id=0B5VzAC5T8GWDTk9rb2x4NFo1b3c
