I had win10, 3drad worked fine.
I have an older POS dell that i plan to replace, at the time i was having other issues with win10, all were reported on the MS forums but none fixed.
I knew as an upgrade that within the first 30 days, win10 supported restoring your old OS for any reason.
So i did that and put back my win7 pro, everything worked and was restored as it was before the upgrade ( almost ).
As a side note:
30 days after restoring my win7 back from the win10 upgrade, one morning i turn on my computer only to see a popup notice...
Apparently my win7 registration WASN'T restored, but was REPLACED with the win10 serial number..
The restoration process also converted my registered win7 back into a 30 TRIAL.
The popup was informing me my 30 trial period had expired and i needed to re-register my win7 TODAY..
i left my computer running over night to avoid not being able to use it tomorrow .. ( i assumed )
I chatted with tech support through the MS website with intentions to bitch like crazy because i lost my registered win7 license just because i tried the win10 upgrade...
I bought this POS dell used with a registered copy of win7, but as a new machine it had vista installed, so the serial numbers on the box didn't match the OS on the machine and i've never had reason to extract my win7 license number...
Now that i got this surprise, my old VALID win7 serial number was gone, never to be seen again.
Soo anyway, the MS tech support guy did a remote logmein session to inspect my computer, got a little info from me, hum and hawed a bit, took 15 minutes as i watched him play remotely with my computer...
THEN HE TELLS ME... I NEEDED TO BUY A NEW WIN7 LICENSE NUMBER FOR $50....
I said WFT, excuse me...
I had a REGISTERED win7 license before i installed win10 and i restored my OS using the builtin option that comes with the win10 upgrade... i followed the book and did nothing wrong here...
I have no intention of buying the win7 license TWICE just because i tried win10....
He excused himself for 7 minutes or so, came back and tells me they will fix the issue right now !.
I watched him remotely enter in a new serial number, then in chat he shared the new serial number and told me to copy and save it for later use if needed.
He also told me this new serial number will work from now on for win7 and win10 if i should install win10 in the future and wont cause a problem if i restore win7 again as i did this time...
Soooooo, i hope they didn't lie to me cause i do plan to reinstall win10, cause i do like it..
My only thought is .. should i go with a full clean install ( no restore option for that )..
or just do an upgrade...
Upgrading is the the best i believe cause you get a 30 day restore process back to your old OS if things don't work out.
You don't have to install all your crap again, or use an back/restore process's, everything just works as it did but with win10 now.
Some problems may turn up if a program doesn't like win10, but i haven't heard much about incompatibility so far.
Plus the upgrade only takes like 45 minutes to an hour and your ready to go.
Plus last month apparently win10 got it's first major upgrades, and it's said that a lot of reported issues were fixed ( that remains to be seen ).
Recently Paul Thurrott of
www.thurrott.com ( a windows insider tech guy ) says that win10 in the near future wont support old hardware installations... this means that you may not be able to install win10 on old hardware..
But this will effect mostly business customers that have older hardware and software and refuse to upgrade to avoid the cost and trouble and the possibility of having to upgrade software too and maybe even retraining some employees on the new software...
Basically MS is saying screw you to their business customers and plans to force them to upgrade, or do their damnedest too.
( this mainly applies to companies buying older hardware to support their older software to avoid upgrades of either, including the OS )
This will likely mean in the not to distant future, more and more customers receiving a notice that their older hardware isn't compatible for an OS upgrade, THANKS MS....
