I really want to make platformers in 3D Rad, but I can't figure out how. The way I handle the animations is I'm using 3D Ripper DX on a game (Madagascar) and am making tons of rips with all of the animation frames, and then I export each frame (after removing the scenery, doubles and then centering the characters) as 000_mesh, 001_mesh, etc... and each animation is a separate skinmesh. All of them are parented to each other and my idea is I could hide the idle mesh when the character is running, and when you stop running, the running skinmesh hides itself and the idle one comes back. yeh that'll work, but what you are doing is illegal, so why bother taking the risk unless it's just as a personal hobby maybe.

I'm not planning on selling it or anything. I'm doing it as a thing on the side, and as a challenge.

Yeah even if you don't sell it your going to be in a heap of trouble if you release it. Imagine someone used your game assets in their game without permission and then they released it for the world to see. Let's be honest you would be a bit mad. I know I would.
I think I might make a detailed post on Copyright Laws watered down for new developers and content makers to understand. Not to be nasty, but it's a dangerous world nowerdays and we all need to know how to be careful.
"Don't bite the hand that feeds" I once heard. So true.

Ripping off game files from another commercial software is illegal. If you are not sure, check the EULA that came with the game. If it says that no one is allowed to reverse engineer the software, then don't take the risk. Consult a lawyer for advice.

Simple as that A lawyer would say the exact same thing. The only way around it would be to contact the owner and ask for permission.

You guys are making a mountain out of a mole-hill. I didn't see anyone get on my case the last time I did this same thing (my Simpsons Road Rage remake, I'm meaning).

You are safe if your game doesn't catch the developer's attention. If your game by chance comes in the spot light of the original developer, then god save you. Some developers don't care, others might. It's too risky. Anyways, for animations you can try out Mixamo. And for characters, use Adobe Fuse. For rest of the 3D models use sketch up. These are the safest ways to do it.

Well, I'm surprised that Fox didn't send me an email in regards to that Simpsons game I was doing, since they are very protective of their IP's (understandably. Viacom is the same way with SpongeBob). Do you know of an easy method of getting Mixamo animations ported over to Rad? I've done it before, but it was such a long process. That, and I forgot how I did it.

I really want to see your project become successful, so I just wanted to warn you about potential dangers. Good luck.
