Is it possible to make a mini map like the one bellow The car sprite remains fixed while the map sprite moves while also cropping automatically. Is it possible to crop sprites using scripts?

The only way i can see this working would be a cam window overlay where the cam is placed high in the air above the target and follows the targets movement.
This doesn't look as neat as your image shows, but thats about the closest method i can think of.
An over lay on that cam could give you a rounded corner type view, but the cam window would still have a square format with pointy corners.

PS it is totally possible to have a centered sprite where the map moves instead try this map to see the moving map design you want, also UPDATE THE SPITES AND THE MAP OBJECTS BEFORE RUNNING OR THE PROJECT WILL CRASH ! . i didn't include the graphic files, just the project. .. map-radar-basic001.3dr (239.7 KB)

. MAPdemo_Terrain.tga (192.04 KB) save this sprite with the name "org tank spot.png" MAPdemo_Vehicle.tga (528 B) Actually the project mite crash without these files to begin with, so save all three in your sprite folder.

Thanks man. I will look into it.
Oh, dude, I was also thinking the same thing. Thanks man, looks like this would work. I would have to design the hud such a manner that the rectangular viewport appears to be rounded and also add a little vignette effect to the main viewport to blend the two.

Do you really wanna do that? I mean, using a second camera drops the performance by a lot... You really don't wanna do that just for a mini map...
Wouldn't a static whole map be a solution?

does it, i have 13 cams setup in the 6 player rangerover race project, of course only one cam is active at a time ( 2 cams per vehicle, and a track cam ) Of course i could use one cam and a script to position it, but that will be left for the optimization process

Without a second cam, it won't work for large maps.

You can have hundreds of inactive cameras and the performance will drop only because of the object amount... But it won't be because of the cameras' activity... What I meant in my previous post was that another active cam is going to reduce the performance... Active cameras do that, because they render another screen for you...
But anyway, you need to sacrifice performance if there's no other solution... But still...

Well scripting would be good, but the logic is too complex for me to have the patience to use that editor to write all of it

I just had a thought sbdjazz If you use a rounded plain as a skinmesh and attach it to a overhead camchase ( to create a moving type of map or radar) then set the camchase to "render target" for that skinmesh... This will replace the skinmesh's texture with the camchase output, and because the skinmesh would be round, the cams output would be round looking and scrollable i believe, i havent tried this, but i think it will work. And you're welcome for the really late idea Is it possible to make a mini map like the one bellow The car sprite remains fixed while the map sprite moves while also cropping automatically. Is it possible to crop sprites using scripts?

That's a neat idea, and might work. Maybe if we could make a shader to drop the opacity of the edges of the skinmesh we could get the exact look of the image above

don't over complicate it hawk, you don't need a shader to do that, just put a round gradient alpha map skin in front of the cam.

a semi or fully transparent texture, use it where/however you want.
