Hi. Im just posting links to a tutorial series I did back in 2015. this is for 3ds max users , but the general theories can be used in other modellers as well. I hope this clearly illustrates how I go from 3d modelling to 3d rad. All the best for the festive season. cheers
just a tip here kulu , as a 3dmax user, you have to specify what version of 3dmax the tutorial applies to because not all versions are the same with the same functions.
I ran into this myself trying to follow alone only to find out my 3dsmax version didnt have the same options, another 3drad guy was helping me with some modeling and guiding me on how to do something, but i couldn't follow his instructions because my 3dsmax version was missing some newer advanced functions.
in this case i use 3dsmax R3, your using 3dsmax 2013, also i have 3dsmax 2009.
I also don't use 2009 version cause i'm more comfortable with R3 and it can do all i need from it.
Also, i would select the faces of the plane and extrude them to create a shell, because i don't think R3 has a "shell" function, and extrude does the same thing . But i may need to select and flip the faces on the back side to create a proper shell ...
