Ugh... this post has just went from me posting about how we can protect our files/how can we protect our files to something about Encryption and a Custom launcher. The Custom Launcher had nothing to do with Encrypting files in my original post. I was just putting suggestions and ideas out there I can't even remember this has dragged on for so long let's leave it as it is and call it a day. Thanks F1 Andre for the advice on UE4, It is time consuming and veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy buggy. For some reason it wonr install on my PC. I have all the requirements (and then some) but it just won't allow it. I get an error everytime. (Keeping in mind UE4 is around 20GB Install withough additional content). Thanks for the replies everyone!

wow, you still don't get the link between protecting files and encryption, even after 3 or more people mentioned it, that kind of stubborness is not a good quality for a studio lead to have! all they do is pack files, like zipping them up, but to protect the packed file from unzipping it needs to be encrypted, i can't explain it any simpler than that!
edit: and packing folders into a file also hides it which is what you seemed to want.

ok indie tech, since you are so against encryption, 'enigma virtual box' is an example of a free non-encrypted packer like i mentioned you might like to try: it will hide all your assets in the exe, sorry for dragging this on but i hope that resolves it for you or some readers.
they also have an advanced paid version.

while you are at it, try the free and popular 7zip: right click the exe and you can unzip it just like you would a .zip file - i hardly call that 'protection' while most people won't know/think to do that, the kind of people that want to rip assets would/should know it.

I have a question... The 3d rad compiler also lets you publish your game as a 3d HTML5 game. Would it not be safer to publish the game in that format?
I know java programming quite well, and if I could make a browser supporting webgl, would it be safer than distributing an installer package of the game? Note: I heard it is possible, using JavaScript, to lock a webpage/site to a particular browser. Do you think it will be less vulnerable? Of course, the saved games will be on the user's hard-drive, and maybe the browser cache will speed up the loading time.

browser games may be ok for small, simple games, but not so good for bigger, detailed ones. so unless you can also find a way to download all the large game assets to the users pc i can't see it being very useful, but doing that also removes the web protection of said files, so i dunno.
