Of course there are many other 3D Modelling softwares, but sketchup remains the easiest and simpliest... If you're not a pro at modelling consider using sketchup...
But if you are a pro, you can try blender, 3DS Max, Maya etc...

For that we need to know your modeler?, are you using sketchup, blender or 3ds max? because it can be done with many different ways,
you can export them as direct x files , or as skin mesh files form the sketch exporter(if you are using sketchup)
So which 3d modeler are you using?

Sketchup doesn't require license in order to be used... The license is only required when you will use the models for commercial use...

Just get the free version... Don't get the pro, that's probably why they're now asking for a license

try using google sketchup 8, it is no longer supported by trimble but it is somewhat free for commercial use, when trimble took over sketchup, they announced a new version called sketchup make which cannot be used for commercial use, for that you have to use the pro version, sketchup 8 is by google and can be used for commercial use....

Here's the problem, in sketchup v8, i have some models with faces flipped inwards while others are facing properly outwards.
The biggest issue is that inside sketchup the models look fine and textures look fine.
I assume here that these models maybe were manually created face by face or maybe a plugin and they work fine in sketchup, but during export 3drads exporter is aligning them properly according to the model info and i end up with some faces / models inside out.
Is there a quick fix to align these faces properly ??, cause i don't want to redesign the models else i would use 3dmax...
Also exporting the models to 3dmax can be done but its a jump through hoop's process and leaves the textures out as well, which puts me right back to square 1, having to redesign or at least re-texture every thing...

PS posted on that issue before, i kept it as a memo:
-Right-click and then "Make unique texture" on the messed up parts
-or, rightclick, texture, reset position... It will reset the texture, but you can reposition it and it will be fixed

I tried both process's didn't fix these models..
Also in this model there are a couple hundred pieces/buildings that have the face's flipped..
It's way to much trouble to fix these one piece at a time, and a better idea to redesign it from scratch in 3dmax and use his model only as a reference...
Maybe newer versions of sketchup work better for this than v8 i can't say and i have no plans to upgrade sketchup for something that wont be used or used very little.
Thanks for the idea though.

You've probably tried this but, select one of the faces which is the right way round, right click it and select "Orient Faces", it does what you're after but if the model isn't closed hull it'll probably get confused and not work, worth a try though

Well it worked but not quite as expected, cause half the model has flipped faces.
It seems i need to go in and manually flip the faces for the ofending buildings.... only time..

You know what, I have a sketchup 8(not pro) and when I export downloaded models, it takes so much time to export and when I exported a bmw m3 gtr,(the one that appears in nfs mw) it took so much time to export and also it did'nt support proper physics like a normal rigid body does.

First, get SketchUp 2016 and I think there will be no problems. If there are, you'll have to explode the model.
