Doesn't 3D Rad already use the scintilla textbox syntax highlighning component?

All i remember is 3drad uses it, but you can replace it with the default editor and get more useful options. But it takes a few special setup processes .

Could you elaborate on the setup processes?

i looked into this a while back, even contacting the dev of an old one that integrates with 3drad, but as expected no reply and a dead end. i think it used a dll, interpreted for rad.
what you can do, is use notepad++ [or similar] setting it to c++ [mostly similar to angel] and just copy paste your code into it, edit, then paste back to rad. i do this, and it's very helpful for highlighting syntax errors, like start-end brackets when there are many, or using find>replace for renamed variables or object numbers [for when you rebuild scripts due to dead-link issues]
...can also highlight a var and all instances of it are highlighted, unlike in rad where you repeatedly press 'find' to list them 1 by 1.
